GTA 6

GTA 6 FAQ: 31 Straight Answers

Release, platforms, price, map, cast, gameplay and online: common GTA 6 questions answered from official sources, with "not confirmed" where true.

Release date: on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S — per Rockstar Games' announcement and subject to change.

How to read this page

Every answer below is either something Rockstar Games or Take-Two Interactive has actually said, something official footage actually shows, or an explicit admission that the thing you are asking about has not been confirmed. That third category is large, and we think it is the most useful part of the page.

A lot of GTA 6 coverage works the other way around: it treats a gap in official information as an invitation to fill the gap. We would rather tell you plainly that Rockstar has not published a map size, a campaign length, a wanted-system description or a PC date, than hand you a number that sounds authoritative and came from nowhere.

The questions are grouped: release timing first, then platforms and price, then the map and the world, then the cast and story, then gameplay, then the online question, and finally some questions about this site itself.

Where an answer depends on something that could change — a PC announcement, an online mode, an unlock time — we say what would have to happen for the answer to change, and where the announcement would appear. For the longer versions, see the release date page, the platforms page, the trailers page and the interactive map. If you want to see our working, the fact-check file in the site repository lists every claim we could not confirm.

Frequently asked questions

Release: when does GTA 6 come out?

The launch date is shown on our release date page and in the countdown at the top of this site. It comes from Rockstar's own Newswire announcement of 6 November 2025 and has been repeated by Take-Two in investor communications since. We deliberately store it in one place so no page on this site can drift out of date.

Release: has GTA 6 been delayed?

Twice. It was announced in December 2023 for a 2025 window. In May 2025 Rockstar moved it to 26 May 2026. In November 2025 Rockstar moved it again to the current date. Both announcements came directly from Rockstar and both were explained as time needed to finish the game properly.

Release: what time of day will GTA 6 unlock?

Nobody outside Rockstar knows. No per-region unlock schedule has been published. Console releases commonly go live at local midnight, and Rockstar opened pre-orders at midnight local time, but neither of those is a commitment about launch day. We will publish a time when Rockstar publishes one.

Release: could GTA 6 be delayed again?

Possible but unlikely at this point. Pre-orders have been taken and paid for, retail supply is committed, Take-Two has built its full-year financial guidance around this launch, and Rockstar shipped a long gameplay showcase in August 2026. Publishers rarely do all of that and then move the date.

Release: can I pre-load the game before launch?

Not announced. Rockstar has not described a pre-load window, and neither PlayStation nor Xbox has published a pre-load date for this title. Pre-load schedules are normally confirmed through the platform stores in the final weeks, so this is a question with an answer coming rather than a mystery.

Platforms & price: which platforms is GTA 6 on?

PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. Those two have been the complete official list since the first announcement in December 2023 and were repeated in the pre-order announcement. Both versions launch on the same day — there is no timed console exclusivity of any kind.

Platforms & price: is GTA 6 coming to PC?

Not announced. There is no PC date, window, storefront listing or system requirement from Rockstar. Take-Two's CEO has said the PC platform matters more to the company over time, which is a positive signal and not an announcement. Rockstar's previous PC ports arrived roughly seven to nineteen months after console launch.

Platforms & price: will it run on PS4, Xbox One or Switch 2?

No to PlayStation 4 and Xbox One — last-generation consoles were never on the list. Nintendo Switch 2 has never been mentioned by Rockstar in connection with this game and has no listing. This is a current-generation console release, and was announced that way from the beginning.

Platforms & price: how much does GTA 6 cost?

The standard edition is $79.99 and the Ultimate Edition is $99.99 in the United States, per Rockstar's pre-order announcement. Regional pricing varies by store and currency. Take-Two's CEO publicly defended the standard price on the grounds that game prices have not tracked inflation.

Platforms & price: what is in the Ultimate Edition?

Rockstar describes it as adding an exclusive collection of premium vehicles, weapons and apparel threaded through the game, plus additional story content. You can upgrade to it after release rather than committing now. There is no collector's edition, statue bundle or steelbook tier — just the two editions.

Platforms & price: what is the pre-order bonus?

A vintage Vice City themed pack that unlocks at launch, described by Rockstar as including a classic sedan and a garage, period outfits and hairstyles for both protagonists, and a weapon finish. It applies to both editions. The physical release is a code in a box rather than a disc.

Map & world: where is GTA 6 set?

The fictional US state of Leonida, with Vice City as its largest city. Rockstar named both in the very first Newswire post and has used the framing "Vice City, USA" ever since. Leonida is an evident parody of Florida, though Rockstar has never described it as a one-to-one map of anywhere real.

Map & world: how big is the GTA 6 map?

Rockstar has never published an area figure, in any unit, anywhere. What does exist is a relative comparison: Rockstar's co-head of development told creator previews in August 2026 that Leonida is roughly twice the size of GTA 5's map and about three times Red Dead Redemption 2's playable area. That is a reported developer remark rather than an official specification, and every square-kilometre number in circulation is still a community estimate. Our map size guide explains why the measurement is ambiguous even after release.

Map & world: what regions are in the game?

Rockstar's official site names six areas to explore: Vice City, the Leonida Keys, Grassrivers, Port Gellhorn, Ambrosia and Mount Kalaga. Each has its own page on this site. Whether those six are administrative regions, marketing groupings or simply the parts Rockstar chose to highlight is not something Rockstar has spelled out.

Map & world: is Vice City the only city?

It is the only city Rockstar has named. Port Gellhorn is presented as a separate populated area rather than a district of Vice City, and Ambrosia is shown as rural. No second major metropolis has been named or shown. Rockstar does name neighbourhoods inside Vice City itself — Ocean Beach, Little Cuba, the Tisha-Wocka flea market and the VC Port — so treat those four as official and any other district or street name you see quoted online as unverified.

Map & world: will the whole map be open from the start?

Not confirmed. Rockstar has not described how the world unlocks, whether any region is gated behind story progress, or whether there is a traditional bridge-unlock structure. Previous games in the series have done it both ways, so past behaviour is not a reliable guide here.

Map & world: is there an underwater or interior world?

Official footage includes water activity and interior spaces, but Rockstar has published nothing about the extent of either — no diving depth, no count of enterable buildings, no statement about seamless interiors. We catalogue what official material actually shows on the interactive map rather than estimating totals.

Characters & story: who do you play as?

Two protagonists, Jason Duval and Lucia Caminos. Rockstar's own description casts them as a pair who have always known the odds are against them, thrown deeper into trouble when an easy score goes wrong. Lucia is the series' first named, voiced female lead in a story campaign.

Characters & story: who is Lucia Caminos?

One of the two leads, introduced first in Trailer 1 and established by Rockstar as having recently been released from prison. She is the character the marketing has consistently placed at the centre of the story. Our character page collects everything official material actually says about her.

Characters & story: who is Jason Duval?

The other lead, shown alongside Lucia in both trailers and connected in official material to life in the Leonida Keys. Rockstar frames the two of them as dependent on each other to survive the conspiracy the story puts them inside. Full details are on his character page.

Characters & story: what is the story about?

Rockstar's published synopsis is short: an easy score goes wrong, and Jason and Lucia end up on the darkest side of the sunniest place in America, inside a criminal conspiracy that stretches across the state. Beyond that sentence and what the trailers show, the plot has not been described.

Characters & story: who else is in the cast?

Trailer 2 introduced a wider group including Cal Hampton, Boobie Ike, Dre'Quan Priest, the duo Real Dimez, Raul Bautista and Brian Heder. Rockstar's official site carries short bios for them. We have a page per character built only from that official material, with no casting or voice-actor claims.

Gameplay: can you switch between the two protagonists?

Official long-form footage moves between Jason and Lucia, and the game is clearly built around both. Rockstar has not published a description of a player-facing switch mechanic — how it triggers, whether it is free-roam or story-gated. Our read is that switching exists; the specifics are not confirmed.

Gameplay: what has been shown about vehicles?

Official material shows cars, motorcycles, boats, airboats in the wetlands and aircraft over the coast. No vehicle list, no count, no handling-model description and no customisation detail has been published. Named vehicles you see quoted are usually extrapolated from brief shots rather than stated by Rockstar.

Gameplay: is there wildlife in the game?

Yes, visibly. The alligator walking into a store from Trailer 1 is the best-known example, and official footage shows birds and marine life around the coast and wetlands. Whether wildlife is a system with hunting or interaction mechanics, as in Red Dead Redemption 2, has not been stated.

Gameplay: how does the wanted system work?

Not described in writing. Official footage shows police pursuit on roads and from the air, and a six-star meter has been widely described from the August 2026 gameplay video — but Rockstar has published nothing about search behaviour, wanted-level decay or how the system differs from GTA V. Anything specific you read about it today is reported from video, not a stated feature.

Gameplay: is there a first-person mode?

Not confirmed. GTA V added one, and Red Dead Redemption 2 shipped with one, so it is a reasonable expectation — but reasonable expectation is not an announcement. Rockstar has shown no first-person footage and has made no statement about camera options of any kind.

Gameplay: how long is the game?

Not stated. Rockstar has never published a campaign length for any Grand Theft Auto before release, and has not done so here. Any hour figure circulating now is invented. Expect credible completion times only once the game is in players' hands after launch.

Online: will there be a GTA 6 Online?

Not announced. Rockstar has described this as a single-player experience and has not confirmed an online mode, a name for one, or a date. An online successor is very widely expected given GTA Online's history, but expectation and announcement are different things and we keep them separate here.

Online: what happens to GTA Online?

Nothing has been announced about shutting it down, migrating accounts, or transferring purchases. GTA Online continues to operate and has had no end-of-life notice. Any claim that your GTA Online money, vehicles or properties will carry across to a future game is not something Rockstar has said.

Online: is there co-op or multiplayer at launch?

No co-op or multiplayer mode has been announced for launch day. Rockstar's platform-store description presents the game as single-player. If that changes before release it will be announced through the Newswire and the platform stores, and this answer will change with it.

About this site: are you affiliated with Rockstar Games?

No. GTA 6 Factz is an unofficial fan site with no connection to Rockstar Games or Take-Two Interactive. Grand Theft Auto and all related marks belong to their owners. We link to official sources on every page so you can check anything we say against the original.

About this site: do you use leaks or datamines?

No. Nothing on this site is sourced from the 2022 breach, from datamining, or from insider claims. Our sources are Rockstar's site and Newswire, the official videos, Take-Two's public statements, and the platform stores. Where something is our interpretation rather than a fact, we label it as our read.

About this site: how often do you update?

Whenever official material changes. The release date lives in a single configuration value that every page and countdown reads from, so a date change updates the whole site at once. New official videos go on the trailers page, and anything we could not verify is logged publicly in our fact-check file.
