What counts as official
Three videos, all from the Rockstar Games channel, all embedded above. Everything on this page is drawn from those videos and from Rockstar’s own descriptions and Newswire posts about them. We do not treat fan edits, upscales, “leaked build” clips or reaction-channel screenshots as evidence of anything, and nothing sourced that way appears on this site.
If you want the interpretation rather than the inventory, the two deep-dive guides are Trailer 1 breakdown and Trailer 2 breakdown.
Trailer 1 — December 2023
Rockstar had scheduled the premiere for 5 December 2023. The video went up a day early, on 4 December, after it started spreading online ahead of schedule. Within 24 hours it had passed 93 million views on YouTube, which YouTube itself recorded as a new 24-hour debut record for a non-music video.
What it establishes. The setting is the state of Leonida, with Vice City at its centre. The tone is a sun-bleached crime portrait told partly through vertical, phone-shot social clips — a framing device the trailer returns to repeatedly, and one we track as its own entry under in-universe phone clips.
What it shows. Crowds packed onto the Vice City beachfront strip; wetlands cut by airboats, which maps to the Grassrivers airboat channels; boats rafted together on open water in the style of the Leonida Keys; low-rise roadside America of the kind catalogued at Port Gellhorn’s motel row; and the shot everybody remembers, an alligator walking into a store.
Characters. Lucia is introduced first and is clearly the trailer’s anchor; Jason appears alongside her. Read more on Lucia Caminos and Jason Duval.
Music, as credited by Rockstar. “Love Is a Long Road” by Tom Petty.
Platform line. The closing card and the Newswire post both named PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S — the same two platforms listed on our platforms page today.
Trailer 2 — May 2025
Trailer 2 arrived on 6 May 2025, four days after Rockstar announced the first delay. It opens on the line “Vice City, USA.” and is markedly more story-forward than its predecessor.
What it establishes. Rockstar’s own framing, repeated on the official site, is that Jason and Lucia have always known the odds are against them, that an easy score goes wrong, and that they end up inside a conspiracy running across the state. That sentence is the closest thing to a plot synopsis Rockstar has published.
What it shows. Far more of the state than Trailer 1 did. Alongside Vice City there are clear looks at the Keys and boats moored together on a sandbar, the wetlands of Grassrivers, the faded coastal texture of Port Gellhorn, rural Ambrosia and the higher, wooded ground of Mount Kalaga.
Characters. This is the trailer that introduces the wider cast: Cal Hampton, Boobie Ike, Dre’Quan Priest, Real Dimez, Raul Bautista and Brian Heder. Locations tied to them include Boobie Ike’s club, Only Raw Records, Cal Hampton’s radio setup and Brian Heder’s boat yard.
Capture note. Rockstar states in the video description that the trailer was captured entirely in-game on a PlayStation 5 and is composed of equal parts gameplay and cutscenes. That is an unusually specific claim for a trailer, and it is the publisher’s own.
Music, as credited by Rockstar. “Hot Together” by The Pointer Sisters.
Reach. Rockstar reported roughly 475 million views across all platforms in the first 24 hours. That figure is a combined social total rather than a YouTube-only number, and it is worth keeping the distinction in mind when it is quoted next to Trailer 1’s 93 million.
An Extended Look — August 2026
Not a numbered trailer, and Rockstar has never called it one. Grand Theft Auto VI: An Extended Look premiered on Netflix on 27 August 2026 at 3 p.m. ET, then went up on the Rockstar Games YouTube channel and the game’s own site at 9 p.m. ET the same day. It runs roughly 26 minutes.
Capture note. Rockstar states it is captured entirely from in-game footage on PlayStation 5. Rockstar also made a very large, lightly compressed download of the video available from its own site, which is the cleanest official source of frames that exists.
Why it matters here. It is the first official material long enough to show systems rather than moments — moving between the two protagonists, driving and boating across regions, police attention, and the ordinary business of a world that has to hold together for dozens of hours. We fold anything new it shows into the gameplay section, the map and the easter eggs guide rather than repeating it here.
What we are still waiting for
No numbered Trailer 3 has been announced. No launch trailer has been dated. No soundtrack or radio-station list has been published. When any of that arrives from Rockstar, it goes on this page with the video embedded and the date recorded — and if it arrives from anywhere else, it does not go on this page at all.
Frequently asked questions
How many official GTA 6 trailers are there?
Two numbered trailers — Trailer 1 from December 2023 and Trailer 2 from May 2025. A third long-form video, "Grand Theft Auto VI: An Extended Look," arrived in August 2026, but Rockstar did not number it as a trailer. Everything else you may have seen is a fan edit, a re-upload, or a reaction video.
Is there a GTA 6 Trailer 3?
Not as of today. Rockstar has not announced one and has not hinted at a date. The extended look released in August 2026 covered far more ground than a trailer would, which is the main reason a numbered third trailer has not appeared.
What song is in GTA 6 Trailer 1?
"Love Is a Long Road" by Tom Petty, written by Thomas Earl Petty and Michael W. Campbell. Rockstar credits it directly in the official video description, so this one is not a community identification — it is stated by the publisher.
What song is in GTA 6 Trailer 2?
"Hot Together" by The Pointer Sisters, written by Sharon Robinson, credited in Rockstar's own description for the video. Streaming numbers for the song rose sharply in the days after the trailer, which is now a familiar pattern for Rockstar trailer placements.
Was the footage real gameplay?
For Trailer 2 and the extended look, Rockstar states in its own video descriptions that the footage was captured in-game on a PlayStation 5, and describes Trailer 2 as an even split of gameplay and cutscenes. Rockstar did not publish an equivalent capture note for Trailer 1.
