Grassrivers Airboat Channels

The wetland material in Rockstar’s official imagery is some of the clearest evidence that Leonida is not a city with countryside attached. Flat water threading through sawgrass, mangrove edges, low horizons, wildlife at the waterline, and shallow-draft boats that cross ground a normal hull would never clear — it is a completely different driving surface from anything on the coast.

What official material shows

Rockstar’s region copy calls Grassrivers an untamable jewel of the state, says you never know what lies beneath the surface of the expanse, and states that alligators are the most famous attraction but not the most dangerous thing among the mangroves. Its own screenshot captions for the region describe three people covered in mud posing on an airboat with a dead alligator and a wildcat, armed with an automatic weapon and a rifle; a top-down view of two people in an airboat ringed by alligators with one of them aiming a gun; a helicopter and two police cars chasing a pickup truck through the swamp with an airboat in the background; and a speedboat running toward buildings raised on piers, with the Vice City skyline behind them.

Those are observations from official captions. Our read: airboats are not incidental here. Rockstar has put one in three of its four published Grassrivers images, which is a design statement about how the region is meant to be crossed.

Why it matters for gameplay

Expectation, not confirmation.

If the wetlands work the way the imagery suggests, Grassrivers becomes the map’s natural hiding place: hard to police, hard to follow someone through, full of places to leave something you would rather nobody found. The official police-chase image supports exactly that idea and makes the region interesting for police and crime as well as for vehicles. The posed-trophy image points at hunting, and the alligator-ringed airboat points at animals that react to you rather than swim past you, both relevant to wildlife. See also activities.

We are not claiming that airboats are a confirmed player class, that the channels form a navigable network, that there are settlements out here, or that any particular mission takes place in them. Rockstar has published none of that.

Connections

This is the movement layer of Grassrivers, and it pairs with the region’s best-known gag at The Alligator in the Store. The three distinct water types across the state — open sea, shallow flats and swamp channel — are one of the observations we track in Easter eggs spotted in the trailers, alongside the Keys sandbar gathering.

How to find it at launch

Not findable yet in any specific sense — there is no named channel, landing or launch ramp to look for, because Rockstar has named none. Our pin is an approximate placeholder near the Grassrivers region centre on our own illustrated base map. At launch we will replace this single generic pin with the actual waterways, boat launches and landmarks the region turns out to have, and re-pin everything to real positions.

Status & evidence

Marked trailer sighting rather than confirmed. The footage and the official screenshots are real and the region is officially named and described, but Rockstar has never captioned a specific channel, named a waterway, or confirmed airboats as a driveable class. The link between the imagery and this pin is ours. No leaked or datamined material was used, and no timestamps are cited.
