Vice City Beachfront Strip

If one image defines Grand Theft Auto VI so far it is the beachfront: a wide boulevard between a wall of pastel towers and open sand, shot at golden hour and again after dark under neon. Both official trailers return to it, and the pre-order material for the game leans on the same imagery, describing Ocean Beach as world-famous and placing the Ocean View Hotel there.

What official material shows

Rockstar’s official site describes Ocean Beach through pastel art deco hotels and bright white sand. Its own screenshot captions for Vice City add a couple on a balcony above a pool, trees and the beach; a street view with palm trees and a basketball court; a jet passing over a Vice City sign; a night skyline with a ferris wheel and traffic; and a beach scene around a lifeguard stand in which six or more people are described doing entirely separate things at once. Official footage shows the same waterfront across different weather and lighting states.

Those are observations. Our read: the beachfront is being built as a place the game expects you to pass through constantly, not as a set piece, and the crowd work is the clearest technical statement in the pre-release material.

Why it matters for gameplay

Expectation, not confirmation.

A dense, walkable, permanently busy strip is where a Grand Theft Auto game usually puts its highest concentration of ambient encounters — street performers, arguments, thefts, patrol cars, vendors. Rockstar’s own Vice City captions include an arrest with bystanders filming and posing, and a road where dirt bikes and ATVs are being ridden through traffic, both of which suggest the boulevard is a stage rather than a corridor. That is relevant to activities, to vehicles and especially to police and crime: a chase along a crowded beachfront is a very different proposition from one on a freeway.

This is the signature image of Vice City and the most-used footage in both official trailers. It connects to Rockstar’s officially named neighbourhoods, and to the question of how this city compares with its 1986 version, which we take up in Vice City then and now. How to find it at launch

You will not need us to find it — it is the most prominent stretch of the city in every piece of official material. What you will need is a real position, and we do not have one. Our pin sits east of the Vice City region centre on our own illustrated base map, which is an original drawing rather than a copy of anything Rockstar has released. At launch we will re-pin it to the actual boulevard, replace our working label with the in-game street name, and split it into separate entries if the game treats the beach, the road and the hotels as distinct places.

Status & evidence

Marked trailer sighting rather than confirmed for one reason: the name on this page is ours. Rockstar has never labelled this stretch of road, and although the official description of Ocean Beach fits it closely, the studio has not captioned the footage. We would rather carry an honest working label than promote an inference to a fact. No timestamps are cited because we have not verified any, and no leaked material was used.
